It is traditional for Alumni to provide scholarship grants to graduating seniors to pursue their college education. The Penncrest Media Alumni Association has been doing this for over thirty years. Guy Messick is the Treasurer. Other Penncrest Classes have collected funds to contribute to the Scholarship Fund. As we celebrate our 50 plus year Reunion, it is the perfect time to receive donations from our Class Members and do our part to help a new graduate or two achieve his or her education goals. At this time in our lives, we have opportunities to help the next generation. This is an opportunity for our Class.
The recipient of the Alumni grant is chosen with the assistance of the Penncrest Administration who identifies candidates based on scholastic achievement, extra-curricular activities, and financial need. Often the Alumni Association interviews the students. The grants have been in the $2,000 to $4,000 range and usually made to one recipient but sometimes to two. We want to do more given the high cost of college education. The Alumni Association also administers the funds for the Class of 1963 Fund, the Class of 1965 Fund, the Larry Simmons Scholarship Fund, and the Claude Falcone Scholarship Fund.
Our minimum goal is to collect $10,000 but we believe we can do much more. The funds will be added to the Alumni Fund to increase our annual grants and recipients. While I am not part of the Reunion Committee, I do try to help reach out to the entire class and post any info as it becomes available about the Reunions or any class news.
